Sharing the land with wildlife
The development's reserve land has been home to nesting Canada geese and ducks for a number of years and attracts other wildlife from the surrounding area. Once the development is complete, this reserve land will also host year-round outdoor recreational activities for residents.
Giving back to the land
"Building an evergreen community for people who appreciate the importance of long-term environmental preservation is my way of giving something back to the land I have farmed for over 40 years," said Sten Berg, the man behind the development. "Habitat Acres strikes a balance between meeting the changing needs of this region today and ensuring the land's environmental integrity for future generations."
Minimal environmental impact
Habitat Acres will feature a self-contained sewage treatment system, the first time such a system has been approved for a multi-owner residential community in Alberta. The system will treat sewage on-site, adding no extra burden on the region's sewage infrastructure.
"The community's self-contained waste treatment is one of the many things that makes Habitat Acres unique," said Berg. "Environmental stewardship of the land is becoming more important all the time. Habitat Acres will have a minimal environmental impact on the region and will be a great place to raise a family."
